Russell Martin’s side put in perhaps the performance of the season at the Keepmoat Stadium, but were denied the three points after Cameron John’s 85th-minute equaliser.
The Dons controlled large parts of the Sky Bet League One encounter and were unlucky not to bring three points back home to Stadium MK.
“I think we got the monkey off our back with the Coventry win – regardless of the competition we needed to get a win.” McGrandles told the local media following Saturday’s draw with Doncaster Rovers. “Even though it’s not three points today, to stop the run of defeats is a good step forward – but we need to start winning games.
“I thought we controlled the game even when we were under pressure. We stayed calm and I thought the Lee, the defenders and Jordan Houghton were brilliant at getting the ball out from the bac. They made sure we kept the ball and kept control of the game.”
He added, “I think that’s probably the best performance across 90-minutes that we’ve had for a long time.”
McGrandles also paid homage to the MK Dons fans for making the 246-mile round trip so close to Christmas time.
“The fans were really good, it’s brilliant that they are coming in their numbers so close to Christmas and making noise like that given the position we are in."
MK Dons return to Stadium MK action this Saturday when they take on Oxford United in their latest Sky Bet League One fixture.
