Callum Brittain insists the MK Dons squad must take an honest look at themselves and improve quickly ahead of Sunday’s testing Sky Bet League One clash with in-form Portsmouth.
The Dons go into the match with Pompey on the back of two disappointing away displays, the latter of which saw them held to a 2-2 draw by Southend United.
At Stadium MK, Russell Martin’s men have performed well and are in search of their third-straight success. Brittain hopes they can maintain that form and show a response from their two recent below-par road trips.
“We’ve got to look at ourselves,” the right-back told the media after the 2-2 draw with Southend United at Roots Hall.
“Things have picked up recently but it’s still not good enough and we need to get better. We’re back home on Sunday and hopefully we can improve then.
“We’ve got players that can do it. Russ believes that we can do it and we need to start believing that ourselves a little bit more.”
Reflecting on the Boxing Day draw specifically, Brittain said: “It wasn’t good enough – the second half especially. We let it turn into a battle and put the game in favour of them.
“When you go on top, you want to secure that and then try to go and get another. It’s disappointing that we conceded straight away both times. They scored from a corner and a penalty – that’s too easy. We need to work on it.
“A point is better than nothing but we’re disappointed. We have to take it and move on to Sunday.”
