MK Dons boss Russell Martin is wary of an improving Southend United side coming up on Boxing Day but insists the focus remains on themselves.
The Dons travel to Roots Hall on Thursday looking to bounce back from defeat last time out and secure an important three points against a Shrimpers outfit who sit one place below them in the Sky Bet League One table.
“The next one is a big one for us,” Martin said in his pre-match press conference, ahead of Thursday’s trip to Essex.
“They are improving under their manager, as I’d like to think we are too. They are fighting for their lives and so are we are. That makes for a big game for both teams and it’s one we’re excited for.
“They are a completely different team to what we faced earlier [this season], as we are. In terms of their style and the intensity to which they are doing it, they are a really different. It will be a difficult game.
“The lads will be aware of what they can bring but, as always, it’s about us and how we prepare and what we’re going to do.
“We will make sure we are prepared to adapt to each game and each challenge. So far, we’ve played against teams with different styles and we’ve learnt from those experiences. I’d like to think we’re ready for any challenge that’s thrown at us now.”
