Russell Martin begins his 16th season as a professional this weekend and the defender is hoping he can enjoy it as much as he did his last.
Martin moved to Stadium MK back in January and played a crucial role in the Dons securing promotion to Sky Bet League One at the first time of asking - the fifth promotion of his illustrious career.
The 33-year-old has enjoyed every minute of his time in Milton Keynes so and hopes to have more joy in a Dons shirt over the next 10 months.
“We just want to get started now,” Martin told the media ahead of Saturday’s clash with Shrewsbury Town. “Everyone is ready physically and more than ready mentally.
“We didn't want last season to end because we were enjoying it so much, and the fact we got promoted made it all worthwhile. Any promotion, whatever league, is a brilliant feeling. Football moves on, though.
“We want to be competitive in this league but enjoy it too. It has been a really good summer as we’ve strengthened on and off the pitch. The club is a much better place than it has been in a good time and who knows where that will take us.
“There are some really big teams in this league - organised, structured. We might have to adapt more at times rather than having us dictating games. Teams probably won't be playing to avoid defeat.
“We've not set any targets, saying we'll get promoted, but we want to improve. We've got momentum, we've got a good squad and we’ve got belief - we'll see where it takes us.”
