MK Dons weren’t in action on Saturday but 22 other sides kick-started their respective 2019/20 Sky Bet League One campaigns.
The Dons were due to begin their season with a trip to Bury but the EFL took the decision earlier this week to suspend the fixture.
Paul Tisdale’s men spent their Saturday being put through their paces in a training match at Woughton on the Green while the rest of the division got their campaign up and running.
Fleetwood Town are the early pace-setters after a 3-1 victory away at Peterborough United. They sit top of the table but share the same points and goal-difference as Blackpool, Lincoln City and Wycombe Wanderers who each enjoyed 2-0 wins over Bristol Rovers, Accrington Stanley and Bolton Wanderers respectively.
Ipswich Town began their first season in Sky Bet League One with a 1-0 win away at Burton Albion while Rotherham United, another new outfit this term, beat AFC Wimbledon 2-1 at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.
Shrewsbury Town, who MK Dons play next weekend at Stadium MK, beat Portsmouth 1-0 in their opening match. Coventry City also enjoyed a 1-0 win - they beat Southend United.
The most entertaining match of the weekend took place in Birkenhead. Rochdale looked comfortably on course for three points when they went 3-0 up on Tranmere Rovers but hosts scored two late goals to create a nervy finish at Prenton Park. Dale, though, held on to seal an opening-day success.
Four teams shared the spoils on opening day. Doncaster Rovers and Gillingham drew 1-1 at the Keepmoat Stadium while Oxford United held Sunderland to a 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light.
