Russ talks late winner

Defender on Forest Green winner...

Russell Martin has scored against Liverpool at Anfield and West Ham at Upton Park, but insists his winner against Forest Green Rovers last Saturday gave him the exact same feeling.

Martin was on the end of Jake Hesketh’s cross before he slammed home past Lewis Ward with just three minutes of the game left to play.

The goal sent the 601 travelling MK Dons fans into pandemonium, with his goal proving to be the winner as the Dons picked up an important three points on the road.

“All goals mean the same, this goal was just as important and I enjoyed it just as much – I was so tired after the celebration,” Martin told the media following the full-time whistle.

“It’s a great feeling and I think we deserved the win on the whole. We created a lot of openings, we just weren't as clinical in the final third. We were solid, they had limited chances, we disrupted the way they play and all in all - it's a good day.

“When they scored, it takes a lot to bounce back from that, momentum had swung but the subs were brilliant. It shows the desire when Joe Walsh keeps the ball in, Jake Hesketh has a bit of quality to find me at the back post and it felt like it took forever to go in - it was the slowest goal ever.”

Martin feels the win over Forest Green Rovers was as a result of the team working as a unit from back to front.

“We've been solid recently. If you look at the top end of the pitch, the way Kieran works, it all starts at the front with his pressing.

“David Wheeler has put in a shift today and we'll need that until the end of the season."
