McGrandles: Focus turns to final five

Scot insists spirits are high despite Lincoln loss...

9 April 2019

Conor McGrandles insists MK Dons will keep their heads held high after Saturday’s defeat to league-leaders Lincoln City and quickly turn their attentions to the final five games of the season.

McGrandles & Co were beaten 2-0 by the table-topping Imps last weekend but were unlucky not to come away with a draw after going close with several second-half opportunities while the deficit was just one.

The result saw the Dons slip to third in the Sky Bet League Two table but they have retained a place in automatic promotion spots. McGrandles says the team remain confident of staying in the top three.

“If we win all our games, we're up,” the midfielder said in his post-match press conference, noting that the Dons’ fate is firmly in their hands.

“We've got five games to get 15 points. We're still in the top three, we have a massive game next against Tranmere so we've got to dust ourselves down and go for that now. We have to go to Tranmere and win.”

On the game, McGrandles commented: “It was one of those games. There have been games this season where we haven't played well and we've won so there have been teams that have felt like we do right now.

“They're a well-drilled team, they're effective and they're strong. but I always thought we were going to get a goal. Up until they scored, we dominated. We had more territory, possession and on another day, we'd have easily got something from that game.

“The penalty gave them something to hold onto. Ryan said it wasn't [a foul] but the ref gave it. It could have gone either way.

“If [Chuks Aneke scores his chance], we're level with five minutes or so to go but they go up the park and score.”
