Martin loving life with MK Dons

Defender hopeful of a successful first season at Stadium MK...

3 April 2019

Russell Martin is loving life at MK Dons and hopes to have a successful end to his first season with the Football Club.

Martin moved to Stadium MK in January and the former Scotland international has been a virtual ever-present since then, totalling 12 appearances and contributing to a run of form which has the Dons sitting second in the Sky Bet League Two table entering the final six games.

“I'm loving it,” the 33-year-old said when asked about his time at MK Dons so far. “It's great group of lads and I enjoy working with Tis who is an excellent manager. It's a really good environment, a really good club and it makes it really enjoyable to come in to every day.

“I'm enjoying every minute, being part of a promotion push as well. I said to the lads that these don't come around very often. Some players go an entire career without one so for us to be a part of one, we want to see it over the line.”

Last weekend’s victory over Forest Green Rovers, in which Martin scored a late winner, has the Dons three points clear in the automatic promotion places heading into Saturday’s meeting with leaders Lincoln City at Stadium MK.

Martin discussed the Dons’ ambitions after the win at Forest Green and insisted that the team only focus on themselves between now and the end of the campaign.

“I'd be lying if I said we did not look but the focus is on ourselves,” he said. “You have a look at what has happened, that's human nature, but we can only play our games and it's in our hands, we're not relying on others losing.

“When there's something to fight for, either going up or staying up, there's that bit of anxiety but we've got to enjoy these games.”
