Lee reflects on century

Nicholls talks 100 MK Dons appearances...

5 April 2019

Should Lee Nicholls feature in Saturday’s clash with Lincoln City he will make his 100th MK Dons appearance in all competitions – a feat he says – has flown by.

Nicholls signed on at Stadium MK back in August 2016 and displaced David Martin in the starting XI before making the number one jersey his own.

Nearing his three-year anniversary with the Dons, Nicholls couldn’t believe how quickly his time with the Club had gone.

“It has flown by,” Nicholls told the media ahead of Saturday’s clash with Lincoln City.

“I was told yesterday that it could be my 100th game - I couldn’t believe it - I just think it has flown by.

“Making my league debut is a standout highlight – I had worked really hard until that point. Dave [Martin] had done well to keep his place, and I knew if I got in, I'd have to work just as hard to keep it.

“AFC Wimbledon away too, it was a tense atmosphere, and it was a really big game to play in.”

Nicholls has had to fight off competition from both Wieger Sietsma and Stuart Moore to retain his place, and while Moore was handed a starting spot in recent weeks – Nicholls believes the decision was justified.

“Personally, this season has been a roller-coaster I think I was having a good season until about December, I made a few big mistakes which cost us points and games and I got brought out of the team to refresh myself.

“It's hard to admit it as a player, to say it's time to come out, but maybe it was. I always work hard every day, so when I did come out, I was desperate to get back on it and keeping pushing Stu. “

Nicholls reserved praise for Moore, and praised the 24-year-old’s work-rate when he’s been both in and out of the squad.

“If anyone in the squad deserves a chance - I felt it was Stu. He did really well in training I never argued with the decision, I wasn't disappointed, I just thought it’s time to get back into the team.

“I knew it would be hard, Stu is a top lad and a top keeper. He’s been behind me for six months, he worked hard and supported me - it was my turn to support him.”
