Sporting Life's Sky Bet League Two preview - 20th October

A look at the upcoming games in the division this weekend...

19 October 2018

As ever, Sky Bet League Two continued to provide entertainment over the international break with a number of big results. Sporting Life’s Tom Carnduff previews the latest round of games.

Lincoln City continue to impress as they moved four points clear at the top with a 6-2 victory over Port Vale last time out. It was the Imps’ 10th victory of the season, two more than any other side in the division.

It’s no surprise to see them sit top of the form charts at the moment with four wins in their last five, and they are capable of adding to that when they take on a Cambridge United side who are struggling for results at the moment. United are on a run of four consecutive losses, and now sit inside League Two’s relegation zone.

Hoping for a potential slip-up will be Exeter City, who continue to put the pressure on Lincoln at the top. They travel to Grimsby Town who have experienced an upturn in results. The hosts have won their last two and will be looking to push themselves further up the table with victory here.

Newport County are level on points with Exeter, and they take on a Crawley Town side who have been hit-and-miss in their last five encounters. It’s been a win/loss pattern for Town, but they have won their last four in front of their own fans which makes them the best home side in the division at the moment.

One side on a winning runs is Tranmere Rovers, who travel to take on Yeovil Town who are without a win in six in all competitions. Tranmere have won their last three in the league and find themselves as one of the best away teams in the division currently with two wins and two draws on the road.

Forest Green Rovers will be looking to make amends from their defeat last weekend as they take on Cheltenham Town, who are one point above the relegation zone with no win in their last five.

Bury are another side aiming for the top-seven, but they could be beaten by a side lower than them as Notts County enjoy a revival under Harry Kewell’s guidance. The Magpies have won their last three games, which includes a win over Crawley who sit level on points with Bury.

Notts have been scoring goals in recent weeks, but their 26 goals conceded is the joint-highest in the division. That makes Sky Bet’s enhanced offer of a Notts County win with both teams scoring at 9/1 an interesting bet.

Macclesfield Town are still searching for their first victory of the season, and they come up against Carlisle who have three losses in their last five. The hosts have just four points from 13 games but they know a win here could go a long way in their hopes for survival.

Morecambe were one side in and around the relegation zone but their form in recent weeks has put them five points clear of 23rd. Jim Bentley’s side have won three of their last five which will give them confidence coming up against Colchester United, who sit in the play-off positions.

In that final play-off spot is Stevenage, who will be looking for their fourth home win in a row when they take on Crewe Alexandra. Alex have the worst away record in the league with just one point from a possible 18 on offer, which means that Stevenage will target this as a game they will want to win.

Oldham Athletic take on Port Vale with both sides looking for form after dropped points in their last four games, while Swindon Town take on Mansfield Town with just a point separating the two in mid-table.

This week’s Sporting Life Accumulator is a huge 75/1 four-fold enhanced by the EFL title sponsors Sky Bet. Head here to back Nottingham Forest, Sunderland, Lincoln and Notts County all to win on Saturday at this exclusively enhanced price.
