Preview: Notts County

All you need to know ahead of tonight's clash at Stadium MK...

23 October 2018

MK Dons will be looking to make it five successive Sky Bet League Two victories this evening when they take on Notts County at Stadium MK.

Paul Tisdale’s men have enjoyed a perfect October to date, winning all four of their league matches without conceding a goal. They are one clean sheet shy of a club-record five straight shutouts and currently boast the second-best defensive record in the EFL.

Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Northampton Town saw the Dons climb back into the automatic promotion places, leapfrogging Newport County into third. They are now just one point behind Exeter City and five behind leaders Lincoln City.

They will be out to close both of those gaps tonight at a stadium where they are unbeaten in all competitions this season - a run of nine games.

Kick-off this evening is at 7.45pm.

Notts County arrive in Milton Keynes on the back of their first defeat in six games but with the arrow certainly pointing up under new boss Harry Kewell.

The Magpies were winless before Kewell’s arrival and the Australian has since guided them up the Sky Bet League Two table - prior to their loss at the weekend, Notts County had avoided defeat in five games and won three straight.

The experienced Jon Stead is their current top marksmen with four goals to his name, three of which have come in the last six games. Fellow forward Lewis Alessandra, while still without a league goal this season, is fourth in the division in terms of minutes per assist (176).

Kieran Agard’s first-half strike saw MK Dons overcome Northampton Town 1-0 at Stadium MK – recording their fourth straight Sky Bet League Two victory.

Agard struck 30 seconds before the half-time whistle to put his side ahead - his fifth goal of the campaign - and he and his teammates did the rest after that, seeing out the remainder of the contest to secure a fourth successive clean sheet and the three points.

Notts County’s three-match winning run came to an end on Saturday as they were defeated 4-0 by Bury.

Nicky Maynard and Cameron Telford gave Ryan Lowe’s side a first-half lead before Jay O’Shea and Nicky Adams added two more after the break.

Paul Tisdale didn’t reveal any fresh injury concerns when he last spoke to the media, following Saturday’s win over Northampton Town.

The Dons were without the likes of Mathieu Baudry, Ousseynou Cisse, Peter Pawlett, Conor McGrandles, Ryan Harley and Osman Sow at the weekend and it remains to be seen whether any could return to action this evening.

Notts County are without defender Rob Milsom who is suspended while centre-back Richard Duffy is a doubt with a hamstring injury. On-loan defender Ben Hall is sidelined as well.

Michael Salisbury will take charge of tonight’s game at Stadium MK – his 14th game of the season.

So far this campaign, he’s issued 38 yellow cards and shown one red – his last Dons game meanwhile, was their 3-2 win over Rotherham in March 2018.

Joe Clarke and George Byrne are his assistant referees, while the fourth official is Christopher O’Donnell.
