Gilbey named in EFL Team of the Week

Midfielder included after his brace against Morecambe...

Alex Gilbey has been named in the EFL Team of the Week for his two-goal display in the 2-0 victory over Morecambe.

The midfielder netted his first two goals of the season in Tuesday’s game at Stadium MK, leading the Dons to their fifth straight home triumph - a result which sent them top of the Sky Bet League Two table.

His two strikes were very similar - both long-range right-footed drives into the bottom right-hand corner. The first was a first-time effort after latching onto a loose ball and the second came after a driving run in from the left flank.

Goalkeeper
Bailey Peacock-Farrell – Leeds United v Reading
Leeds United kept on the tails of Sky Bet Championship leaders Norwich City with a hard fought victory against the Royals at Elland Road. A large part of that was down to the Leeds 'keeper, who with his side narrowly leading, saved a late Marc McNulty penalty.

Defence
Connell Rawlinson – Yeovil Town v Port Vale
The Port Vale right back capped an impressive individual performance with a towering header to double his side’s advantage midway through the first-half as the Valiants secured a comfortable 3-0 win.

Michael Morrison – Millwall v Birmingham City
A dominant performance from the Blues' captain was rewarded with his second goal of the season so far. A clean sheet and three points made it a perfect midweek display for Morrison.

Tom Lees – Sheffield Wednesday v Bolton Wanderers
Almost the perfect scenario for a defender - a goal, a clean sheet and the three points. Rising highest from a corner, Lees flicked on a near-post header to secure the victory for Wednesday.

Midfield
Joe Lolley – Aston Villa v Nottingham Forest
He is beginning to make a regular occurrence in these selections, but once again Joe Lolley is deservedly included. In a quite unbelievable game that finished 5-5, the wide player had a hand in all five goals, scoring once and providing four assists.

Herbie Kane - Doncaster Rovers v Blackpool
The on-loan Liverpool midfielder is having a fine season at the heart of the Donny midfield. Not known for his goal scoring exploits, Kane shown the qualities of his Premier League namesake to open the scoring in first-half injury time with a sweetly struck long-range strike.

Alex Gilbey – MK Dons v Morecambe
MK Dons returned to winning ways as midfielder Alex Gilbey hit a brace to down the Shrimps. Two long-range efforts did the trick, the first of which was curled effortlessly into the bottom corner, before a more powerful effort also found the net.

Marcus Browne – Oxford United v Rochdale
A performance that had it all... The West Ham United loanee continues to impress at Oxford United, this time popping up on the scoresheet twice and also providing an assist for James Henry's 14th minute strike.

Forwards
Tammy Abraham – Aston Villa v Nottingham Forest
A rather simple inclusion in the Matchday 20 TOTW, Abraham scored FOUR goals in a contest that will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest ever games in the Sky Bet Championship.

Nicky Maynard – Bury v Cheltenham Town
Maynard's fine start to life at Bury continued during midweek, as the 31-year old registered another two goals in an impressive 4-1 victory for the Shakers. That was his 8th goal in just twelve appearances this season.

Sol Pryce – Swindon Town v Stevenage
Welcome to the EFL, Sol Pryce. The Swindon Town academy graduate marked his first league appearance with a goal inside 18 seconds, whilst adding a second in first-half injury time. It was an impressive start to professional life at the Robins.

Manager
Michael Jolley - Grimsby Town v Tranmere Rovers
The Mariners made it five games unbeaten at Blundell Park, dispatching of Tranmere Rovers in impressive fashion. In a high-scoring contest, Grimsby prevailed by five goals to two and move into 18th place.
