Conor praises Dons’ patience

Midfielder reflects on Tuesday’s win over Morecambe…

29 November 2018

MK Dons had to wait until the 58th minute to find the breakthrough against Morecambe but midfielder Conor McGrandles felt the opening goal was always coming.

An Alex Gilbey brace gave Paul Tisdale’s side all three points on a wet and windy Tuesday night at Stadium MK, a game in which the Dons had to remain patient to find a way past the resilient Morecambe defence.

The weeks prior, it was a similar story, as the Dons found the opening goal of the game in the 52nd minute through Chuks Aneke.

“You’ve got to be patient as side will come with a game plan,” McGrandles told iFollow MK Dons following the full-time whistle.

“It’s not always going to be easy to break down teams. We always know we are going to get chances and more often than not – we will take them.”

The Scot was making his first Sky Bet League Two start since he suffered an eye injury on the opening day of the season.

Despite missing almost three months of the campaign, McGrandles slotted in effortlessly into the side as he played the whole 90-minutes.

“It was a really good evening - I had to keep pushing and pushing throughout the game. We were confident that if we kept doing the same things then we would get the victory in the end.

“I’ve not played right midfield a lot and I’ve not played 90-minutes in the first-team for a while so it was a good evening for me to get through it - I’m really pleased.”

The 23-year-old also reserved praised for the MK Dons fans – who he says have been a massive factor in the positive performances this season.

“The fans have been really good here so far, the pitch suits the way we play and the fans have got behind us – they certainly help us get results here so long may it continue.”
