Lewie: This is the lowest we’ve ever been

Defender reflects on Saturday's defeat...

Following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat against Scunthorpe United, MK Dons’ relegation from Sky Bet League One was confirmed.

The Iron found the net twice within the first-half as goals from Rory McArdle and Ivan Toney saw the the men from MK1 accept their fate.

Speaking to the media after the game, Dean Lewington described the emotions following relegation.

"This is the lowest we've ever been," he said. "It's upsetting, a shame and embarrassing. It's a lot of things which have been building up for eight or nine months. When I came back, I said we'd sleepwalked into the situation, but now it has finally happened."

Lewington added, "It's definitely the lowest point but just because we hit rock bottom, we don't have to stay there. This is as bad as it has got, so we have to work hard to get out of it.

"We can't feel sorry for ourselves, or lament decisions in the past. Now it's about rebuilding what's left of the Club."

It's fair to say that during his time with the Club, Lewington has built a special, unique bond with the MK Dons faithful. He was quick to praise the fans for their support in what was a difficult season.

"The fans were really good today. I told the lads they had to stand up and take the criticism if it came and to go out and be an ambassador and role model for the Club. If the kids want autographs, your shirt or a picture, you have to take it.

"They're the future. I was pleased to see Callum [Brittain] stay out there - it's 10, 15 minutes of our time but it's worthwhile. The people who stayed appreciated it."
