Carey Pensions and Yokohama victorious at Stadium MK

Carey Pensions and Yokohama lift Partners’ Cup and Shield respectively...

14 May 2018

Carey Pensions came out on top in this year’s Club Partners’ Cup. The seven-a-side tournament took place at Stadium MK on Monday 14th May, with eight teams competing.

Alongside winners, Carey Pensions in Group 1 was Yokohama Tyres, Bidfood and Mk Dons’ Friends of the Trust. Group 2 consisted of EMW Law LLP, University of Buckingham, MK Dons’ Sponsors and Kinship Logistics.

Carey Pensions battled it out to finish top of Group 1, eventually meeting the winners of Group 2, MK Dons Sponsors team, in the final. MK Dons’ Head of Business Sales Andy Wooldridge was player-manager of the MK Dons’ Sponsors side, which included representatives from Grant Thornton, Brioche Pasquier, Express Fire Protection, Flitwick & Ampthill Bathrooms, DBfB Communications, Neves Solicitors and Milton Keynes City Centre Management.

The group winners and runners-up went into the Partners Cup, where the final was a tight affair until Carey Pensions scored two quick-fire goals. MK Dons rallied to strike a late consolation to make it a tense finale to the game - but Carey Pensions held on to win 2-1.

Due to the impending launch of the Suzuki Swift Sport, Suzuki kindly donated their place to the MK Dons Sports & Educational Trust (SET.) A number of our Friends of the Trust supporters took part, including Events Managed, Mazars, Shoosmiths LLP, Milton Keynes Family Law, Bridgman & Bridgman, MacIntyre Hudson and Woodfines Solicitors.

The Friends of the Trust team were beaten finalists in the Club Partners Shield, which was consisted of those teams who finished third or fourth in their group. In a close fought final, they lost 2-1 to Yokohama Tyres.

Andy Wooldridge from MK Dons said “It was a really fun evening, with some very competitive football played in the right spirit. The event is something we do every year to thank our Club Partners, who invest a huge amount of resources into the Club every year. It was disappointing that my team lost in the final, however, Carey Pensions were deserving winners.

“Thank you to all of our Club Partners and other commercial sponsors for their support over the past season. A thank you must also go to the first aid team, who had a fair few muscle strains to manage!”
