Report: Under-23s 2-0 Bristol Rovers

Sam Nombe and Charlie Pattison find the net in victory...

13 March 2018

MK Dons secured a 2-0 win over Bristol Rovers on Tuesday afternoon in their behind-closed-doors Central Development League clash.

Sam Nombe scored the opening goal of the game as he calmly slotted past Liam Armstrong in the opening minutes of the clash.

In the second-half, Charlie Pattison doubled the scoring as he chased down a short back pass before blocking the goalkeeper's clearance into the back of the net.

The Dons' starting XI contained Nigel Reo-Coker who has spent the last two weeks training with Dan Micciche's men.

Elsewhere, Giorgio Rasulo donned the armband, Ben Tilney and Conor Furlong gained valuable minutes while both Hugo Logan and Sam Nombe featured.

The visitors registered the first shot on goal, James Spruce found himself an inch of space, he could only fire his shot into the arms of Alfie Jones.

The Dons soon found their way back into the game and with that foothold on the tie - the opening goal. On 11 minutes Sam Nombe raced onto the end of Matthew Sorinola's perfectly weighted through ball before rounding Armstrong and converting from close range. 1-0.

A lengthy stoppage after a clash of heads between Sam Nombe and Ben Morgan resulted in Liam Sole replacing the Dons striker and Leigh-Gilchrist coming on for the away side.

Rovers thought they had levelled the scoring seven minutes from the break, substitute Leigh-Gilchrist attempted an acrobatic overhead kick that found its way into the back of the net, however, the offside flag was raised to the relief of Rubio's side.

It was almost the perfect start to the second-half for the Dons as Connor Furlong beat a number of defenders before finding himself one-on-one with Armstrong. He was denied by a superb last-ditch tackle from Kelly as the winger was pulling the trigger.

Having replaced Hugo Logan four minutes earlier, Charlie Pattison doubled the Dons advantage on 62-minutes. His determination to press high up the field was rewarded as he blocked Armstrong's clearance before the ball looped over the keeper and into the back of the net. 2-0.

After being clattered during an aerial duel with the Rovers striker Alfie Jones was replaced by Trialist between the sticks for the Dons. Owens forced the keeper into a low save before Leigh-Gilchrist rattled the near post with his rebound.

Dons Starting XI - Jones (Trialist 72) Sorinola, Tapp, Hope, Tilney; Kasumu, Reo-Coker (Bell 76); Furlong, Rasulo (Pattison 58), Logan; Nombe (Sole 33).
