Sam Nombe was back in action for Oxford City at the weekend and netted for the sixth time in an Oxford City shirt as The City returned to winning ways.
It was almost the perfect start for Oxford City Rob Sinclair converted from Nombe's cross, however, the linesman judged Sinclair to be offside.
It was Sinclair who opened the scoring on the hour mark as he slotted calmly past Bailey Vose. The lead lasted just 13-minutes, however, as Jamie Philpot drew Welling United level as he headed home from Jeffrey Monakana's cross.
After a couple of chances went astray Nombe restored Oxford's lead on 76-minutes. He demonstrated explosive pace to reach Callum Driver's through ball before poking past Vose to net his sixth Hoops goal.
As Welling pushed for a late equaliser Freddie Grant secured victory for City as he curled past Vose from the edge of the box.
The win keeps Oxford City 15th in the Vanarama National League South table and extends their gap from the relegation places to 10 points. They face second-placed Dartford at home next Saturday.
Elsewhere, Hugo Logan's Hitchin Town were not in action due to a waterlogged pitch.
