Aneke pleased to help put points on the board

Chuks reflects on an important week for the Dons...

20 March 2018

Chuks Aneke was happy to play his part in helping MK Dons put six points on the board last week at Stadium MK.

Aneke provided assists for the first two goals in the 3-2 victory over Rotherham United and followed that up four days later by netting twice from the penalty spot to lift the Dons past Bury.

The two victories saw Aneke & Co close the gap on safety and breathe new life in their fight to secure their Sky Bet League One status for next season.

“Football is all about getting points,” the Dons’ number 10 told the media after his Man of the Match display against the Shakers. “To get six points in a week – after not winning for a long time – is unbelievable.

“We believe we can beat any team on our day but results haven't shown that. We've played well in games and got nothing so it's only right that we didn't play that well [against Bury] but got the points.

“Two wins in a week can only be good for us and going forward, hopefully this has given us a bit of confidence. We’ll continue to work hard, keep our heads down and we'll see what happens next weekend.”

On his contribution to the cause last week, Aneke said: “It’s not just about me, it's a massive group effort – I scored today, Robbie and Pete scored the other day, but it might be Osman and Kieran next week.

“I had a one-on-one against Rotherham where I should have scored – I was really disappointed with my finishing in that game. Hopefully, I've put it right today.

“I practice penalties after all the sessions. [For the first one], the keeper went very early so I was able to wait for him to dive and put it where he wasn't. I was so determined just to score again, so I didn't have many thoughts when it came to the second one.

“I wanted to get a hat-trick, I wanted to push on but it wasn't to be.”
