Abbie & England prepared for Euro qualifiers

Defender set for three important qualifiers...

22 March 2018

MK Dons Ladies defender Abbie Roberts is in Norway with England Under-17s, preparing for the final round of qualifiers for the UEFA Women’s U-17 Championship.

Roberts is included in John Griffiths’ squad for the three qualifying matches against Slovenia, Switzerland and host nation, Norway.

The first of those matches, against Slovenia, takes place this Sunday lunchtime at the Klepp stadion.

The Young Lionesses will be looking to progress through to the UEFA Women’s U-17 Championship finals by finishing top of their group. This year’s finals will take place in Lithuania.

Speaking ahead of the qualifiers, Roberts told mkdons.com: “I think the whole squad is feel good as we’re going into the tournament having beat Japan 2-1 and we’re playing good football. As a team I think we’re ready, it’s just about if we can perform.

“If we go out there with the right attitude – the sky is the limit. We’re preparing for no excuses, to be honest. At the end of the day, if we don’t get to where we want to be then it’s on us.

“Personally, I want to play as many minutes as I can and gain as much experience as I can. That said, I’m a very selfless person and want the team to win. You’ve got to go with a team mentality and believe that we can win the tournament rather than thinking about yourself. As I say, I hope to get minutes but it’s all about the badge and we’re playing for each other.”
