Walsh: I can’t wait to get back playing

Defender eager to get return to action…

11 June 2018

It’s been a long road to recovery for Joe Walsh, however, with the end of his rehabilitation process on the horizon, the MK Dons defender is relishing the chance to play football once more.

Although the travelling Dons contingent will have fond memories from January’s Emirates FA Cup trip to Queens Park Rangers, Walsh will be hoping to forget the personal struggles he endured that afternoon.

The 25-year-old suffered an injury at Loftus Road that ruled him out for the remainder of the season, but he’s looking to put his injury behind him and return next year as a stronger individual.

Talking to iFollow MK Dons, the defender gave an update on his injury situation and thanked the Dons Medical Staff for their work and support.

“I’m feeling good now," he said. "I’m finally back on the grass, Simon Crampton is working me hard and I’m feeling good - everything has gone smoothly since I got injured in January.

“The whole Medical and Sports Science team have been brilliant with me. As soon as I got injured they kept my spirits up and worked me hard.

"They give you the work to do and, obviously, it worked because I’m back on the pitch and feeling good - I’m thankful for all their support and all their work.”

Walsh hasn’t been alone during his rehabilitation process as unfortunately Alex Gilbey joined the Welshman in the injury room. Walsh admits, while it’s not nice seeing another player injured, Gilbey was certainly helped the process.

“Obviously, it’s not nice having other lads in the injury room but for me having [Alex] Gilbey in there was nice as I had some company. It can get lonely when you’re injured, he kept the spirits up and we worked hard to push each other and that’s what got me through it to be fair. “

Throughout the period of his injury, Walsh has had incredible support from the Dons fans both on social media and down at Stadium MK – something that hasn’t gone unnoticed.

“Since I’ve joined the Club all I’ve had is good support from the fans which I’m really grateful about. Be it on Twitter or if I see them out after the game, I’m really appreciative of all the support and hopefully, we can pay them back next season.”
