Getting to know you: Ryan Watson

Learn more about MK Dons’ latest recruit, Ryan Watson…

20 June 2018

mkdons.com lists a number of things you may not know about midfielder Ryan Watson, who has joined the Dons on a one-year deal.

Versatility

While predominantly a defensive midfielder, Watson has played a number of positions throughout his career and will provide Tisdale with depth and options throughout the upcoming campaign. The 24-year-old featured 14 times in defensive midfield for Barnet last season, while he also played seven games in the more advanced central midfield position. He also displayed his qualities on the right side of Barnet's side as he played twice at right back and four times in right midfield.

Leadership Qualities

Throughout the course of his career, Watson has displayed his skills to lead a side on a number of occasions. The midfielder has donned the armband during his time in Wigan's academy and during his stint with Leicester City under-21s. His ability to do so during the early stages of his career shows a maturity beyond his years.

Great Groundings

Born in Crewe England, Watson progressed through Everton's famous academy before departing for Wigan Athletic in 2010. While with the Latics, Watson signed his first professional career in 2011 before making his professional debut while on loan at Accrington Stanley. In the summer of 2013 he'd depart Wigan and make his way to Leicester City where he'd become a regular for the Club's development side.
Unfortunately, first-team appearances were limited at the King Power Stadium with Watson making his name at both Northampton Town and more recently Barnet.

Danger from dead ball situations

New signing Watson has proven throughout his career that he's certainly a threat from both free-kicks and corners. It's no surprise Tisdale is a fan of his as the midfielder netted a stunning free-kick against The Grecians during the 2017-18 season. His ability to strike a ball cleanly will no doubt provide Tisdale with a threat from dead ball situations.
