Walsh: I’ve missed this feeling

Joe Walsh talks returning to football after injury lay-off…

17 July 2018

A major positive for Paul Tisdale and the MK Dons faithful this pre-season will no doubt be the return to action of Joe Walsh.

The defender picked up an injury during the Club’s 1-0 Emirates FA Cup win over Queens Park Rangers in January – a knock that ruled Walsh out for the remainder of the 2017-18 season.

After a lengthy rehabilitation process, the Welshman returned to action for the pre-season win over St Neots Town before playing a further 45-minutes against Brackley Town last Friday.

“I’m feeling good,” Walsh told iFollow MK Dons following the final whistle last week.

“It’s all about getting my sharpness and fitness back during pre-season. I’ve been out for six months and working during the off-season but there is nothing like coming back onto the pitch and playing with the boys it’s a totally different type of fitness but it’s going well.

“I’ve missed the feeling you get before and after a game that’s the thing I’ve missed the most and it feels good to be back."

The 26-year-old has worked closely alongside Simon Crampton and Adam Ross during his recovery and also shared his time in the injury room alongside Alex Gilbey and Dylan Asonganyi – four people he had nothing but kind words for.

“I’ve done quite a lot of running with Simon [Crampton] and Adam [Ross] and they’ve helped me a lot - I scored quite highly when I came back for the pre-season running.

“They’ve both been brilliant with me since I injured myself, they’ve worked me hard and been really good with me and I appreciate all the help they’ve given me.”

Walsh added, “Dylan [Asonganyi] has done really well and got a lot fitter. He obviously scored a lovely goal he scored the other night – I’m pleased for him and glad to see him back on the pitch.

“I can’t wait for [Alex] Gilbey to get back and get on the pitch, we missed him towards the end of last season when he was out. I can’t wait for him to get back and I’ll be pleased for him when he’s back out there because he’s worked really hard.
