Preview: UD Almeria

All you need to know ahead of tonight's pre-season friendly in Spain...

18 July 2018

MK Dons play the first of their two friendlies on Spanish soil this evening when they take on UD Almeria.

Paul Tisdale’s squad, who have been based in Spain since Sunday, face the Segunda Division side tonight at the Pinatar Arena before entertaining Segunda Division B outfit FC Jumilla on Friday.

This will be the third match in MK Dons’ pre-season schedule, following the friendlies with St. Neots Town and Brackley Town last week. Once again, the aim for tonight’s encounter will be to get minutes into the legs of the players with little over two weeks until the opening day of the 2018/19 campaign.

Kick-off is at 6pm BST (7pm local time).

UD Almeria ply their trade in the second tier of Spanish football.

The Rojiblancos narrowly avoided relegation to Segunda Division B last season, finishing above division rivals Cultural Leonesa on goal difference.

Their 2018/19 squad includes some notable names including former Manchester City midfielder Jose Angel Pozo and ex-MK Dons midfielder Sergio Aguza, who recently moved to the Anadalusia-based club.

Alex Gilbey is expected to feature in tonight’s match as he steps up his rehabilitation from a knee injury. The midfielder has been sidelined since January but is set for his first game exposure tonight.

Midfielder Ryan Harley should also make his first appearance since returning to MK Dons but Ousseynou Cisse, who joined the team in Spain on Tuesday, isn’t likely to play until Friday.

Paul Tisdale: “It’s a camp dedicated to football. We've picked up the intensity of their work hopefully this trip will take our fitness and sharpness levels up.”

Callum Brittain: "It's always nice to get some minutes in pre-season. I'm looking forward to playing later, in the sun, against different opposition."

Entry to tonight’s game is FREE for those supporters who are in Spain.

Fans back in the United Kingdom will be able to follow the game LIVE via the Club’s Match Centre while goal updates will be posted on Twitter throughout the clash.

A full report will be published on mkdons.com at the full-time whistle. Highlights will be available to view on iFollow MK Dons by Thursday morning.
