Jordan happy to call Stadium MK home

Houghton excited for the next two years with MK Dons...

8 July 2018

Jordan Houghton has played for four different teams during his young career but Stadium MK is only the second place he has been able to call home.

A product of Chelsea’s illustrious Academy, Houghton has spent the majority of the last three years out on loan at the likes Gillingham, Plymouth Argyle and, most recently, Doncaster Rovers.

“It’s been three years that I’ve been going here, there and everywhere,” he told iFollow MK Dons after putting pen-to-paper on a two-year deal with the Club.

“I’m here now for two years and I’m looking forward to it. Now I know I’m going to be here for the next two years I’m looking forward to building something.”

Getting to know you: Jordan Houghton

On his move to Stadium MK, Houghton said: “I’m very happy to be here. Just looking around the stadium - this is a huge club and the stadium and facilities are top draw. I can’t wait to get going and get training.”

Houghton wasn’t short of suitors following his release from Chelsea, after several strong seasons on loan at Plymouth and Doncaster.

However, after a two-hour conversation with MK Dons manager Paul Tisdale, the 22-year-old’s mind was made up - he was heading to Stadium MK.

“I had a long chat with the manager a couple of days ago. We sat down for a good couple of hours and it wasn’t just football that we were talking about but normal stuff as well.

“I got a feel for him and the place. I liked what he had to say and he seemed very much on my terms in terms of football. I’ve grown up with coaches that look to develop players and he believes in that - it is what I’ve fundamentally come here to do as I’m still young.”

Scouting report: Jordan Houghton

Houghton added: “Before I spoke to him I was excited over the prospect of playing here but when I sat down and spoke with him it ticked another box for me.”

The 2018/19 season gets underway in just under a month’s time which means there is plenty of time for Houghton to get acclimatised to his new surroundings. The midfielder, who trained with his new teammate for the first time on Friday, is eager to get going.

“I played 40 odd games last season so it does take a toll on you. I had a few weeks of relaxing but then I’m quite an active person anyway so I was keeping on top of my fitness. Now it’s time to really crank it up and get with the boys in pre-season.”

“I’m happy it’s sorted only a week into pre-season, so I can get some training in before the season. We are going away in a couple of weeks which will be nice - to be away with the boys, we can gel as a group."
