Despite suffering defeat in their first game of 2018, George Williams took the time to praise the travelling support after over 650 MK Dons fans turned out at the Kassam Stadium on Monday afternoon.
“The fans are really important for us and I thought they were brilliant today,” Williams said in his post-match interview.
“They gave us good support during and after the game and they were also fantastic against Peterborough. We’re gutted we couldn’t get any points for them today – but they’re crucial.”
It’s been a hectic Christmas period for MK Dons, which wasn’t made any easier after playing the large portion of Saturday’s win over Peterborough United with nine men.
Williams & Co left everything on the Stadium MK field after Joe Walsh and Osman Sow were sent off in the first-half against Posh and Williams admitted the circumstances of the victory could have caused the Dons to tire sooner rather than later, although wasn't in the mood for making excuses.
“Fatigue probably played a part. We had just a day turnaround after Peterborough and that wasn’t a normal game. We played almost 70 minutes with nine-men so there were a few tired legs, but that’s no excuse."
He added: “I thought there were some positives to take, but we have to cut out the mistakes. I feel if we cut them out – we’d of won that game.
“We dominated the majority of the game, which is why we’re so disappointed. We need to stop these silly mistakes.”
Williams concluded with a preview to Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup clash at Loftus Road, a ground where MK Dons have previous cup success.
“It’s a big game and we’re looking forward to it. We hope we can go there and cause an upset.”
