22 January 2018

mkdons.com previews this evening’s Central League fixture against Forest Green Rovers, taking place at Brackley's St James Park stadium.

Edu Rubio’s side are back in Under-23 action tonight following a two-week break from Central League football.

Rubio’s squad made the perfect start to 2018 as they overcame AFC Bournemouth 2-1 away from home, with goals from Brandon Thomas-Asante and Osman Sow.

The result lifted them three points behind top-of-the-table AFC Wimbledon in the Central League South East.

Kick-off is at 3pm.

Forest Green Rovers Under-23s are one of five sides that make up the Central League South West division and currently sit at the foot of the table.

The Rovers have conceded 12 goals in their three defeats but have found the net five times. After their clash with Bristol Rovers Under-23s was called off two weeks ago - they’ll be itching to take to the field for the first time since November.

MK Dons were originally due to host AFC Bournemouth, however, the fixture was postponed and rearranged for the following day – this time in Bournemouth.

The late change of venue didn’t affect the Dons, who took a first-half lead courtesy of Brandon Thomas Asante’s long range strike. Osman Sow, who was serving a suspension from first-team football, grabbed the second goal of the game with 68 minutes on the clock as he turned home a low cross.

There was time for Bournemouth to find the net after Mikael Ndjol converted a late penalty, however, despite some late pressure from the home side, Rubio’s team held on for all three points.

Forest Green Rovers suffered their third defeat of the season after goals from George Lloyd, Kyle Storer, Matt Bower and Daniel O’Shaugnessy secured a 4-2 win for Cheltenham Town. Toni Gomez and Will Randall were on the scoresheet for Rovers during the defeat.

Dean Lewington will be hoping to feature for MK Dons tonight. The defender last played for the Dons in November and is included in Rubio’s squad for the clash.

Elsewhere, Tommy Hope, Finn Tapp and Oran Jackson will battle it out for a starting berth in defence, while Brandon Thomas-Asante, Sam Nombe, Hugo Logan and Giorgio Rasulo will be looking for some all important minutes later tonight.

Tickets are priced at £6 adults, £3 over-65s and £1 under-18s while under-12s can attend for FREE. Entry can be paid for on the night at St. James Park – cash only. Gates open at 6pm.

Supporters wishing the follow the action from home can do so via the Match Centre/Twitter, while a full match report will be available to view on mkdons.com after the final whistle.
