FA Youth Cup tie a fantastic learning opportunity

Edu Rubio looks ahead to tonight's FA Youth Cup tie...

MK Dons Under-18s take on Colchester United in the Fourth Round of the FA Youth Cup tonight and manager Edu Rubio views the tie as another fantastic learning opportunity for his players.

The Young Dons, who secured the Youth Alliance League South East title last weekend, are competing in the Fourth Round of the FA Youth Cup for the very first time and have the chance to create more history this evening by picking up a victory.

Rubio, though, insists the focus never changes for his squad. He told iFollow MK Dons: “The mindset is always the same for the players – make sure you focus on the learning and focus on those chances to improve because the consequence of that will hopefully be winning the game.

“On the night we are probably going to be a bit more mindful about game management and minimising mistakes but that will just be the learning of that day. The true mindset will be on how we can improve and learn.”

On the contest itself, Rubio said: “We’ve never been in the Fourth Round of the FA Youth Cup so, of course, it is going to be a good and important day for the Club.

“It’s going to be a very tough game. Colchester have a very good side and they have a very good academy.”
