Later today, MK Dons will welcome Prostate Cancer UK to Stadium MK who, with the support of volunteers, will be raising money to beat a disease killing one man every 45 minutes in the UK.

Prostate Cancer UK is the Official Charity Partner of the EFL and their “Man of Men” logo sits proudly in the squad numbers of every Dons player’s shirts. It also adorns the lapels of football managers, pundits and fans across the land.

Manager Dan Micciche has joined forces with over 40 football managers from the English Football League (EFL), Premier League and League Manager’s Association (LMA) to raise awareness of the disease.

Micciche said: “In my time working at Stadium MK, I have seen MK Dons support Prostate Cancer UK and I’m honoured to be able to take the lead this year and, on behalf of the Club, represent men around the country who have been affected by prostate cancer.

“I am joining the fight against prostate cancer by wearing my Man of Men badge on the touchline this Saturday. It’s not just me, though – every one of the players proudly wears the Man of Men in their squad number.

“We are all fully aware of the seriousness of this disease and we all have a responsibility to make men around the country aware. Hopefully we can use football as a vehicle to get that important message out there to the people who need it most”

Supporters can play a part too. On Sunday 22nd July, football fans are set to March for Men on the road to Wembley, with Prostate Cancer UK unveiling an even bigger and better walking programme as they make further strides to stop prostate cancer being a killer.

For the first time, the number of men dying from prostate cancer every year has overtaken the number of women dying from breast cancer, making prostate cancer the third biggest cancer killer in the UK.

So football fans are setting rivalries aside and are stepping up to the challenge to take part in one of four mega marathons – one of which kicks off from St Albans FC.
