Ladies reach County Cup Final

James Honeyman’s side overcome Chesham United in Semi-Final…

19 February 2018

Goals from Charly Wright and Sasha Newsome ensured MK Dons Ladies made it into the BBFA Women’s Senior County Cup Final as they beat Chesham United Ladies 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.

The Ladies suffered an early setback in the cup clash as Chesham opened the scoring as their forward volleyed home from outside the box leaving goalkeeper Sophie Shults at a standstill.

Chesham, who defeated the Dons in last year’s final, were unable to build upon their goal as James Honeyman’s side soon drew level.

Charly Wright capitalised on a loose pass from the Chesham defence before threading an inch-perfect pass into the path of Kerry Newman. The forward calmly slotted past the onrushing Chesham keeper to equalise.

The Dons were able to capitalise on their momentum and soon found their second of the game through Sasha Newsome as she headed home from close range.

Talking to mkdons.com after the game, James Honeyman shared his joy over having reached the final.

“Chesham had the better of us in the first-half, but after a strong end to that half, we said at half-time that we needed to calm down,” said Honeyman.

“We came out in the second-half, executed our game plan excellently, dominated and got the result we deserved.”

Honeyman continued to share how he felt about being in the final after last year’s disappointment.

“We want to win it, we’re excited about being in the final,” stated Honeyman.

“After going close last year, we are determined to win it.”
