Walsh: We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves

Joe Walsh reacts to win over Bury…

13 August 2018

Joe Walsh’s performance against Bury saw him named the Sponsor's Man of the Match as he helped guide MK Dons to their second consecutive win of the season.

Walsh’s gritted, determined performance was personified by his willingness to throw his body on the line on multiple occasions to block a number of Bury’s efforts on goal.

Having picked up six points out of a possible six, Walsh has stated the squad are staying grounded and want to maintain their momentum heading into Tuesday’s Carabao Cup clash with Charlton Athletic.

“We don't want to get ahead of ourselves," he told the media. "It's the first time we've won the first two league games of the season so it's pleasing - we have to keep it going

“Last season, everyone was on the floor. You have to get the confidence back and nothing does that like winning the first two games of the season.

“It was really pleasing to come back and put a good performance in. I was glad Ouss got the goal at the end and we got the victory.”

The defender also completed 90 minutes - the first time he has done so since January 6th after a knee injury ruled him out of action for just over 6 months.

The 26-year-old shared his time in the injury room with Alex Gilbey and Dylan Asonganyi. The defender first noted his delight after seeing Dylan make his professional debut before reserving a special thank you to the Medical Department for the time and effort they’ve put into helping the trio return to first-team action.

“It was really pleasing to see Dylan play. He found out he was starting on Friday, and we were all buzzing for him – I think he put in a good performance, so I'm really happy for him.

The whole Medical Department have been brilliant for us. They've pushed us for the last six months, we've had some long days. I was coming in at 7 in the morning and leaving at 7 at night - it was all worth it, in the end, to have us all starting together.

“I was excited to come back and play and that's what got me through in the end. I wasn't too tired, the adrenaline got me through the game! It was a long road to recovery after six months of injury, so it's great to be back.”

“Everything is feeling good, I was eased back in during pre-season and they were right to do that - I'm shattered, but it was worth it for the win!”
