Healey heads to Stadium MK

Striker joins on loan from the Premier League...

24 August 2018

MK Dons have signed Cardiff City striker Rhys Healey on loan until January.

Healey, who has scored 19 goals in 42 career starts, will remain with MK Dons up until and including the Sky Bet League Two fixture with Oldham Athletic on Saturday 5th January.

The 23-year-old becomes the 11th new arrival at Stadium MK this season. The deal, along with his availability for Saturday’s match against Exeter City, is subject to clearance from the relevant governing bodies.

“I’m very happy to be here,” Healey told iFollow MK Dons after completing his loan switch.

“It was a big decision for me to make, deciding where to play my football, but Paul Tisdale, the size of the Club, the staff and the boys here made it a no brainer really.

“I want to bring goals but my main priority at the moment is working hard and getting into the team – the goals will come from that I’m sure.”

Healey began his career with Welsh side Connah’s Quay Nomads before moving to Cardiff in January 2013.

The forward has played 13 times for the Premier League Bluebirds, with his debut coming against Chelsea back in May 2014. He scored his first goal for Cardiff last season - a 90th-minute winner against Burton Albion at the Cardiff City Stadium.

This will be Healey’s fifth loan move, having previously spent time with the likes of Colchester United, Dundee, Newport County and Torquay United. With the latter last season, he netted six goals in just eight appearances.

Paul Tisdale said of his new striker: “Rhys is a player who I’ve looked at previously. I always thought he would suit my team well and I made enquiries about on numerous occasions over the past two or three years.

“With his work-rate and ability, I think this is a nice fit. He is a player who is hungry to play and prove himself. We are more than happy to facilitate in that challenge for him.

“We need re-enforcements so we expect him to feature very quickly. We’re hoping he can settle really quickly and play his best football very soon.”
