Saturday's match-winner discusses penalty drama...

Kieran Agard insists there was no hesitation in picking the ball up for the second penalty in MK Dons’ win over Exeter City.

Agard saw a 55th-minute spot kick saved in Saturday’s clash at Stadium MK but showed great confidence to step up and convert from another penalty 10 minutes later - a goal which secured all three points for his side.

“I’ve never had to take two penalties before,” he told iFollow MK Dons.

“It was unfortunate I missed the first one but I’m always confident taking penalties so I was always going to grab the ball for the second. As soon as the referee blew for a penalty it was always going to me.

“The boys were fantastic with me - they gave me words of wisdom and inspiration. The fans were great as well. I’m delighted the second one went in.”

Saturday’s win saw MK Dons move up to second in the Sky Bet League Two table as they maintained their unbeaten start to the 2018/19 campaign.

A key factor in their excellent early-season form has been the defensive displays, with the Dons having only conceded twice in their opening six matches, and Agard is pleased that the work being done on the training pitch to improve the defending is paying off.

“We’ve been working on defending from day one and it’s good to see the work on the training ground is showing on the pitch.

“We’re getting used to it and we’re learning all the time, getting better at it. The work on the training ground is showing on the pitch.”

He continued: “It was really good to get the win. We’re building some momentum and hopefully we can build on that moving forward.

“There is a long way to go but all we can do is take each game as it comes and get that points. Hopefully by the end of the season, these points will matter.”
