Loan Watch: Nombe features in Oxford City defeat

Hitchin Town and Oxford City suffer defeats...

16 April 2018

Sam Nombe’s Oxford City side fell to a 4-2 defeat against promotion-chasing Weston-Super-Mare on Saturday afternoon, while Hugo Logan's Hitchin Town were beaten 4-1 by Kettering Town.

An early penalty from Weston-Super-Mare's Gethyn Hill put the Seagulls on course for victory after Godwin-Malife was adjudged to have fouled his man inside the box.

City did level the scoring on 26-minutes after Kavan Cotter's deflected strike found its way past Luke Purnell and into the back of the net.

Rob Sinclair then gave The Hoops the lead on 31-minutes as he slotted past Purnell from inside the box.

Just five minutes before the break Weston-Super-Mare levelled the scoring. A corner straight from the training ground found Jarred Welch on the edge of the box, his strike was deflected off Hill as the forward inadvertently scored his second of the game.

Just seven minutes after the restart, Weston-Super-Mare retook the lead for the second time. Another well-worked set-piece resulted in Aaron Parsons heading home at the far post.

Nombe looked to draw his side level, however, Purnell stood tall in the Weston-Super-Mare net to deny the on-loan academy graduate.

He would eventually be replaced by Zac McEachran on 73-minutes.
Shortly after his substitution, the game was put to bed as Hill chipped over King to secure his hat-trick.

Oxford City return to action on 21st April as they play hosts to Bognor Regis Town in the National League South.

Elsewhere, Hugo Logan was an unused substitute for Hitchin Town as an Aaron O'Connor's four goals secured a 4-1 win for the Poppies.

Hitchin are next in action on Monday 16th April as they face Slough Town.
