Monday saw the second of this season’s Group Ticket Rewards (GTR) Big Days take place at Stadium MK, with groups joining the Dons for the match with Blackburn Rovers.
One of those groups, Bury Town FC, travelled from Bury St Edmonds to take part in various activities as part of their SET Matchday Package as well as, of course, watching the big match.
Travelling to Stadium MK on the Bury Town FC first-team coach, players and coaches arrived at Stadium MK for the first part of their day – a changing room, tunnel and pitchside tour.
Many selfies and a couple of team photos later, they were on their way to the Dons’ training ground at Woughton on the Green for a training session in the Dome with Under-23s manager and Senior Professional Development Coach, Edu Rubio. The players, made up of two Under-9s teams, were treated to a fun session where they honed their football skills whilst their coaches also got involved under the instructions of Edu.
Then it was back to Stadium MK where they joined other groups for a talk and Q & A with Edu. Subjects discussed included how best to go about becoming a professional footballer, nutritional advice and what it takes to be a great coach. Children and adults alike posed their questions to Edu and everyone left for their matchday seats with quite a bit more knowledge than when they entered the room.
Finally, it was time to take up flagbearing and guard of honour duties as well as participating in the GTR Half-Time Challenge – somewhere in-between all of that was the small matter of a football match between MK Dons and Blackburn Rovers!
