Alex Gilbey knows there is only only way to make amends for Saturday’s disappointment at Portsmouth – beat Walsall.
Oliver Hawkins’ first-half brace saw the men from MK1 fell to a 2-0 defeat at Fratton Park on an afternoon when the side were never really at the races.
However, they have the opportunity on Tuesday evening against Walsall to respond and return to winning ways in Sky Bet League One – Gilbey is hopeful they can do just that.
“(Portsmouth) was very disappointing so we know we need to go again on Tuesday and we need to win,” the midfielder told the media in the aftermath of Saturday’s loss.
“We’re lucky in this sport where games come thick and fast. We’ve got to forget about this one and go into Tuesday’s game looking to get three points.”
The Dons travelled to Portsmouth in a confident mood having won their previous two away fixtures but after falling behind just 14 minutes in, they never really recovered.
“From start to finish, it wasn’t good enough,” Gilbey said. “We go into every game wanting to win but today we just weren’t on it.
“When you’re sloppy in this league and you come to places like this, then you’re going to end up losing and that was the outcome today.
“We conceded two sloppy goals and if those mistakes didn’t happen then the game stays 0-0 but still, we just weren’t good enough.
“It was one of those days where players were trying things and nothing was coming off. As a player, you’ve got to go back to basics sometimes – we didn’t do that and we deserved to lose with the way we performed.”
He added: “Going back home, we need to get back to playing better football and win – simply, win.”
