mkdons.com details the storylines to follow heading into this Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup clash at Stadium MK.
Bouncing back...
Robbie Neilson’s side fell to their first defeat in six games against Doncaster Rovers last Saturday and will be looking to return to winning ways when they face Maidstone United on Saturday afternoon.
The Emirates FA Cup tie with the Rocks is a similar situation to that of First Round clash with Hyde United in early November - the men from MK1 will once again take on non-league opposition in the Emirates FA Cup before a Checkatrade Trophy tie, with the cup games providing a welcomed distraction from Sky Bet League One football.
A win this Saturday will no doubt boost the confidence in the camp as they enter a busy Christmas period.
Emirates FA Cup...
Now in its 137th edition, the Emirates FA Cup is the oldest recognised football tournament in the world. Every year new stories are produced and memories are made – something Neilson will be looking to create with his Dons side.
After overcoming Hyde United 4-0 in the First Round, the Dons know a win against Kent-based Maidstone will put them in the hat for Round Three of the competition - where a tie against one of the Premier League’s best is possible.
Rotation...
Between this Saturday and next, the Dons will play three home games in three different competitions, starting off this weekend against Maidstone. They will then take on Chelsea Under-21s in Round 2 of the Checkatrade Trophy before concluding the week with a return to Sky Bet League One action against Shrewsbury Town.
The busy period will mean Neilson will have to rotate his side in order to keep the players fresh. The likes of Aidan Nesbitt, Joe Walsh and Sam Nombe all appeared in Round One of the Emirates FA Cup, while in the Checkatrade Trophy win over Oxford United saw Wieger Sietsma, Brandon Thomas-Asante and Robbie Muirhead feature.
Neilson may once again look to shuffle the pack against Maidstone this Saturday.
