Gboly on importance of winning games

Winger talks following Oxford United victory...

9 November 2017

After making his first start since the 2-0 defeat to Bristol Rovers, Gboly Ariyibi found the net twice in the Checkatrade Trophy victory over Oxford United.

The win was the Dons’ second in under a week and Ariyibi knows just how big winning games is for confidence. “The most important thing was the win – it’s massive for us,” he said in his post-match press conference.

“You could look at the last two games and argue they haven’t been against the highest quality opposition, but it’s not about that – it’s about the result. We’ve gone up against a good Oxford side and I feel we all done well.”

The winger’s brace against Oxford took his total for the season to seven – something Ariyibi wants to do more often.

“I’m obviously happy to be playing – I want to play all the time. I want to score goals and do what I’m good at.”

Ariyibi’s second of the night came via some clever link-up play with Brandon Thomas-Asante. The youngster opened the scoring on the night before fellow academy graduate Hugo Logan made his way onto the field as the game drew to its conclusion.

“Brandon was very good and it was also good for Hugo to get on as well. These are the sort of games for the young boys and the lads who perhaps aren’t always getting into the side.”

The Forest-loanee concluded with a look ahead to Saturday’s tie with Fleetwood town, “It’s a massive game for us – we look confident so we should hopefully get three points.”
