2016/17 recap – August

8 May 2017

mkdons.com takes a look back at the 2016/17 season, month-by-month, starting with August...

The Dons made a slow start to their Sky Bet League campaign, picking up just seven points from their opening five games. They finished the month without a win at Stadium MK but with two victories to their name from their two away fixtures.

In cup competitions, Karl Robinson’s side reached the Second Round of the Capital One Cup following a thrilling 3-2 win over Newport County, but were then knocked out by Championship side Reading at the Madejski Stadium.

They also got their Checkatrade Trophy campaign off to a positive start, collecting two points courtesy of a penalty shoot-out triumph over Barnet at Stadium MK.

The men from MK1 found themselves 2-0 down after 17 minutes but went on to control proceedings and go close on numerous occasions, including hitting the post.
