The 2016/17 season was a memorable one for George Williams but after committing his long-term future to MK Dons, the defender hopes the next three years provide even more success.
Williams put pen to paper on a new contract with the Dons last week, one which will keep him at Stadium MK until June 2020.
The new deal follows a campaign which saw the 24-year-old establish himself as a key member of the first-team squad and take home the Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year honours at the Club’s end-of-season awards ceremony.
What next then, for Williams?
“I’m looking forward to kicking on,” Williams told iFollow MK Dons. “It was a good first season for me but here’s to another three years where we can hopefully push for promotion, achieve that and then stay there.”
Williams made 42 appearances in 2016/17 and was a near ever-present following Neilson’s appointment in December – not bad for a player who, back in 2012, was not offered a professional contract by the Club after progressing through the Academy.
He said: “It was a strange feeling coming back here but I’ve loved it. Since the moment I got here, everyone has made me feel really welcome.
“Last season I felt I did well personally. I really felt by football came on leaps and bounds and I really enjoyed it – it’s probably the most I’ve enjoyed my football.
“Having the trust from the manager was key to that, knowing that I was going to play helped me go out and express myself. Each game I felt like I was improving and game-by-game the confidence grows.”
He added: “I can’t wait to get back out there this season coming and kick on."
