Crampton updates Chuks' progress

Forward is now outside running as he steps up rehab...

Forward Chuks Aneke will travel with the squad to Hungary at the weekend as he steps up his rehabilitation.

The 24-year-old is working tirelessly to recover from a hamstring injury sustained at the end of February.

Head of Sports Medicine Simon Crampton told mkdons.com: "Chuks is continuing to progress. He’s not someone we’re looking to rush back - it’s important we take our time with him and to ensure that when he returns he is 100% ready.

"He’s been in throughout the summer and has now returned to running, he is currently undergoing a treadmill based protocol along with some conditioning-based running outdoors. He also continues to work really hard with Adam and John in the gym from a strength and conditioning perspective."

He added: "Like with Scott, there’s no single test we can do to see if he’s ready to return to training. This decision will be based on a wide variety of measures, and we are already monitoring him on some of these tests.

"We’d like him to be contention to make a return by the end of September and I think that’s still very realistic. He’s going to come out to Hungary and by then he’ll hopefully be predominantly completing outdoor running drills. He won’t be sprinting but he won’t be far off it.

"Once we’re happy with that, we’ll commence dynamic running drills and progress him accordingly."
