Paul: Arrow pointing up

4 January 2017

Paul Downing says MK Dons are looking up the table and not behind them after taking four points from their two fixtures either side of New Year’s Day.

Downing & Co saw off Swindon Town in a five-goal thriller at Stadium MK last Friday before earning a point away at Chesterfield on Monday – a game they came close to winning in the second half.

“We want to look up the table now,” Downing told MK Dons PlayerHD after the goalless draw at the Proact Stadium.

“We were disappointed to lose to Charlton but we responded with a good win at Swindon. This (draw) keeps momentum and we go into the FA Cup match two unbeaten.”

“I thought there was going to be only one winner but we’re happy with the performance – we’ll take the point on the road and move on.”

“In the last 15 minutes we created some good chances whilst also stopping them countering us which is something we talked about.

“We’re pleased with a clean sheet as a team. We’ve been working on our organisation off the ball – making sure we’re solid and allowing the forward players to go out and express themselves.

While disappointed not to pick up a victory in the meeting with Chesterfield, Paul Downing was pleased to collect another clean sheet – MK Dons’ eighth of the campaign.

“We’ve just got to keep working hard to maintain it because results will then come.”

“We’ve had quite a settled back four and I think we’re defending better as a team. I certainly feel like we’re more secure and more organised and that’s credit to everyone who plays.

After keeping just five clean sheets in 26 games prior to the month of December, the Dons have since held the opposition to a blank three times in their last eight outings – Downing, who has been involved in all-but-one of those clean-sheets, has noticed a difference defensively.
