It took Harvey Barnes all of three minutes to show his new supporters what he has to offer, following his loan switch from Leicester City.
However, it was Barnes’ third touch which will be fondly remembered – a superb half-volley under the body of Northampton goalkeeper Adam Smith which made it a league debut to remember for the 19-year-old.
“It was a great experience for me to make my debut and top it all off with a goal,” he told MK Dons PlayerHD afterwards.
“It’s always nice to have a good game on your debut and to make a good, early impression – hopefully confidence will be high going into Saturday.”
“All the boys are delighted with the result and hopefully we can take this momentum into the rest of the season.”
It’s a result which lifts the men from MK1 up two places in the Sky Bet League One table and Barnes hopes the side can build on the success moving forward.
Barnes’ goal was the fifth of the afternoon for the Dons, who picked up a fourth home win in five against the Cobblers.
On the goal, Barnes said: “When you get around there you’ve got to look for goal. It was on my weaker foot but I thought I’d have a hit and hope for the best – fortunately it’s gone in!” Barnes will be looking to impress when MK Dons face Bolton Wanderers in the Gift of Football clash at Stadium MK, where residents of Milton Keynes - as well as Season Ticket holders and members - are entitled to redeem a FREE match ticket - click here for more details!
