Chuks: Onwards and upwards

24 January 2017

MK Dons are on the up – that’s the message from forward Chuks Aneke, who opened his Dons account with a brace in the 5-3 victory over Northampton Town.

Aneke’s double – as well as goals from Kieran Agard, Darren Potter and debutant Harvey Barnes – earned the men from MK1 their fourth home win in five under Robbie Neilson and lifted them two places in the Sky Bet League One table.

Now the 23-year-old hopes the side can kick on and put together a run of results which will see them climb even further up the division’s standings.

“We want to push on and push upwards now,” Aneke said to MK Dons PlayerHD after Saturday’s success at Stadium MK. “There’s no point in winning one game, it’s about winning consistently and we need to find that mentality.

He added: “The next game is against Peterborough (United) and hopefully we can go there and do the same.”

“We can’t get too complacent, though. We’ve got to keep our head down and hopefully the points and the goals will keep coming.”

“We’re definitely pleased with the result because we’re in football for three points. We’re scoring goals now and the confidence is flowing.

“It was good to win, good to score twice and good to get an assist. We can all take a lot of confidence from this.”

“To get two goals is also fantastic for me. I wanted to score because I feel I can help the team now I’m back fit.

His brace on Saturday – his first two goals for the Club – was another milestone for the former Arsenal trainee, who told MK Dons PlayerHD he was pleased to get off the mark.

It’s been a rollercoaster ride for Aneke, who battled through a serious knee injury to become a key player in the Dons’ side. Will Aneke find the net in MK Dons' upcoming clash at Stadium MK?
