Return to winning ways pleases Robbie

26 February 2017

‘Phenomenal’ was how Robbie Neilson described his side’s first 15 minutes in their 2-1 success over Shrewsbury Town at Stadium MK.

He concluded: “I think Nicky, Maecky and Robbie gave us energy which was pleasing. The thinking behind all three of them on was to try and give everyone a lift.”

The 36-year-old made a triple substitution not long after the hour mark and here’s why.

Agard opened the scoring within the opening minutes and he received praise from his boss post-match. “He’s a massive player for us and he’s a real goalscorer. I think it helped having Chuks up alongside him – he thrived on that. He gives us goals and energy.”

“I would have loved the clean sheet because we’ve been strong defensively. They chucked everyone forward, got some momentum and scored but we managed to see it out which is the main thing.”

“We turned them well and put a lot of pressure on but then we took our foot off the gas and then we were playing in fits and starts after that. We need to try and carry that momentum on for the full 90 minutes.

“I thought we were phenomenal for the first 15 minutes and went 2-0 up.

“It was great to get back to winning ways but we made it hard for ourselves,” he told MK Dons PlayerHD.

That spell of the game, which included Kieran Agard’s 12th goal of the season and Paul Downing’s first for the Club, proved to be the difference as the Dons got back on the winning trail.
