Nicky Maynard has scored over 100 goals in his career but you’d do well to find a more dramatic one than Tuesday’s winner against Oldham Athletic.
Deep into stoppage time, with the score locked at 0-0, Maynard broke the deadlock with a stunning 18-yard volley - a strike which earned his side all three points in an important Sky Bet League One clash.
“When you come on as a substitute you want that one chance to make a difference,” Maynard told MK Dons PlayerHD. “It was nice to see it go in the back of the net and us get the three points.
“Oxford (United) is coming up and we’ll go into it believing we can take three points and keep climbing up the table.”
He continued: “It’s six games unbeaten now and we’re just taking the momentum into each game. Seeing as move up one place at a time gives us more confidence to keep doing that.
“The ball’s come into the box and usually I’m the one trying to get on the end of it but for some reason I thought I’d hang about. Fortunately enough it’s been headed out to the edge of the box and I’ve just closed my eyes and hit it!”
