Robbie on Dean Lewington

Manager discusses the left-back's recent absence...

2 December 2017

Robbie Neilson has confirmed that Dean Lewington is likely to make a loan move away from Stadium MK in the January Transfer Window.

Lewington has been limited to just five league starts this season and hasn’t featured in Neilson’s match day squad for the last two games.

“Dean has obviously been here a very long time. He signed a two-year deal in the summer and I know that he is committed to the Football Club,” Neilson told the media after Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup victory over Maidstone United.

“We had a chat at the start of the season about what I felt his game time would be. Dean feels he can still play week in, week out here but I don’t feel he can do that at the moment.

“He will likely go on loan in January. We are going to look at that option in the January window and we will be as supportive as we can for him. We will then have a chat in the summer and go from there.”

Asked whether Lewington had played his last game for the Dons this season, Neilson said: “Never say never because football is one of those games where things can change so quickly.

“At this moment in time, he will have the opportunity to play week in, week out out on loan. We will then re-assess things in the summer.”
