MK Dons have signed Wigan Athletic’s Alex Gilbey for an undisclosed fee.
The all-round midfielder arrived at Stadium MK late on Deadline Day to complete the deal and put pen to paper on a three-year deal. The transfer is subject to EFL and FA clearance.
He becomes the Dons’ third Deadline Day signing and completes their business in the summer transfer window.
"I'm over the moon," Gilbey told iFollow MK Dons. "It's a very attractive club who have a chairman and a manager who want to take it in the right direction. I'm very excited by the move."
An athletic type with an eye for goal, Gilbey has made 149 senior appearances for Wigan, Newport County and Colchester United – he was once the latter’s Player of the Year after an impressive 2015/16 season in which he scored five goals in 42 games.
He already has a goal to his name this season, having netted in the Latics’ Checkatrade Trophy tie with Blackpool earlier this week – one of five appearances he has made for the early high-fliers in 2017/18.
Neilson told mkdons.com: "He's been a player we've admired for a long time. We've worked hard to get the deal done - he is exactly the type of player we are after.
"He's got great hunger and he'll be top addition for us."
