Winger wants another win at the weekend...

31 August 2017

Gboly Ariyibi helped MK Dons make a winning start to their Checkatrade Trophy campaign – now the winger hopes the side can kick on in Sky Bet League One.

The men from MK1 beat Brighton & Hove Albion Under-21s on Tuesday evening, with goals either side of half-time from Ariyibi and Aaron Tshibola earning the comfortable 2-0 success.

Now the Dons will be looking to make it two wins from two at Stadium MK by defeating Oxford United on Saturday.

“(Tuesday) was all about building confidence for Saturday,” Ariyibi told iFollow MK Dons following the victory over Brighton. “It will be a big game against Oxford and hopefully we can get a good result.

“We were very disappointed with the result against Blackburn last time out but our home form is pretty good so we’re looking forward to the game on Saturday.”

Boss Robbie Neilson praised a professional performance from his team in the victory over Brighton and Ariyibi echoed that sentiment in his post-match assessment.

“It was a good all-around performance. They were a young side but it was important for us to keep our shape and start well – we did that.”

He added: “The main thing for us was to get a result - it was good to get a victory.”

Ariyibi opened the scoring in midweek with his second goal since arriving on loan from Nottingham Forest – the winger was pleased to find the net at Stadium MK.

“I want to score in every game I play. Fortunately, I was in the right position to come in and take the goal well.”

Another positive from Tuesday was the impressive performances of several young Dons who were given a chance by manager Neilson.

Ariyibi was keen to praise those youngsters, telling iFollow MK Dons: “The younger players came in and put in good performances – Hugo (Logan) on his debut did well, so did Brandon (Thomas-Asante), Sam (Nombe) and Giorgio (Rasulo).

“As senior players, it’s important we help bring them into the game, while they provide energy for us.”
