Gboly eager to get going

Winger looks ahead to this weekend's season opener...

1 August 2017

Gboly Ariyibi can’t wait for the big kick-off against Wigan Athletic and is confident the 2017/18 season can prove to be a successful one for both him and MK Dons.

The tricky winger moved to Stadium MK this summer on a season-long loan deal from Nottingham Forest and could be in line to make his competitive debut for the Dons in their Sky Bet League One opener against the Latics on Saturday.

“I’m buzzing,” said Ariyibi. “There is nothing better than walking out in front of fans and playing football – it’s a great feeling.”

It’s been almost three weeks since the 22-year-old's switch to Milton Keynes – a move which Ariyibi hopes will lead to more regular game time.

He said: “I hadn’t played for six months before coming here so the main thing for me is playing. I just want to get back to enjoying my football and playing regularly again.”

He added: “I got a great welcoming from the players and staff. I just can’t wait to get going really.”

As well as the potential for consistent playing time, there was also another key factor behind Ariyibi’s decision to swap NG2 for MK1.

“Robbie is a great manager and he’s the main reason why I’m here,” Ariyibi told iFollow MK Dons.

“It’s a great club as well – I’ve played here many times. This club deserves to be back in the Championship and I’m aiming to help them to do that while I’m here.”

Ariyibi & Co will be looking to get off to the perfect start when they entertain Wigan in the season’s curtain-raiser and the loanee hopes that will lead to a positive 2017/18 campaign for the Club.

He concluded: “We’ve got a good squad so I think we’ll do well. It’s a different experience for me because I’m in a team that is pushing to be challenging so there will be pressure every game but it’s good to play with that pressure.

“Wigan is a big game – I just can’t wait to get going.”
