What we learnt: Robbie's presser

29 April 2017

Here’s what else we learnt from Neilson’s Thursday press conference...

Departing trio
“It was a joint decision with all three. All three of them have been fantastic servants to the Club. I had had a chat with them about the direction I wanted to take and the direction they wanted to go in as well. It was decided then that the best thing to do was for us to move on and them to move on as well. I’ll be honest, during the time I’ve been here all three of them have been fantastic professionals. They’ve all worked hard and I couldn’t ask anymore from them. It’s a nature of football that people come and people go. They go with our best wishes and our thanks for what they’ve done for the Club.”

More departures to come
“There will a few more players who will move. They are players who I have spoken to but we’ll release the information at the right time. It’s important when players leave they are respected and we do right by them.”

Dean Lewington’s future
“We’re in contract talks with Dean at the moment and it’s progressing well. I’ve spoke to him, he’s going to have a couple of days to speak to his agent about it as well as Pete (Winkelman). He’s got a decision to make about what we wants to do next. Hopefully we can get this progressed and we can keep Dean here because he’s been a great servant and I still believe he’s got a lot to offer the Club. He deserves the right to be here.”

“It’s a big close-season for them. It’s important that they come back for pre-season in the best condition they can so that they can hit the ground running and give me a decision to male – do I go and recruit or do I run with one of them?”
Big summer for young Dons

“We’re in the process at the moment, trying to get a few things tied up before everyone leaves for their holidays. We’ve done our homework and due diligence on the players we’re targeting because it’s important that the players who come in can take the club forward. We’ll try as hard as we can to get them in. I’m not going to sit and put a number on (how many players will come in) but there will be several.”
